I used to be skeptical when I heard self-development experts say that you can do anything you set your mind to.
But now after several years of setting my mind to things I didn’t believe I could achieve – and then achieving them – I’m starting to think the “experts” are right.
The thing is, even if I had known beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were right…the question still remained as to “how” to achieve anything you set your mind to.
And there are a lot of varied opinions on the matter.
Some people teach good old fashioned hard work.
Others like to learn, study, and research.
Still others subscribe to the Law of Attraction.
Some folks pray to their God and hope that their desire is in the cosmic plan.
And yet others talk about phenomena like quantum jumping and reality shifting.
I think there’s at least some truth to each of these strategies…but I don’t see the need to subscribe solely to any one in particular.
Just like with everything, you take what works and you discard the rest. It’s really quite simple.
So many times, people get wrapped up in discourse and forget to question. They forget to experiment. They forget to consider the one and only thing anyone with a dream needs to consider: what works for me?
If you can answer that question than you can achieve anything you set your mind to…whether it’s a million bucks or inner peace.
“What works for me?”
It’s really that simple.
The hard part is that you need to keep asking it.
That’s right…even when you’ve found what works for you, it’s far too easy to get trapped in your own discourse.
You need to continue to ask the question and re-shape your answer.
What works for you today might not work for you tomorrow.
You are not the same person you were even five minutes ago…nor is the world the same place it was just moments before you read this sentence.
So when you figure out something that works for you, don’t stop there.
And more than this…continue to think about what it is that you want in the first place!
Because, what good is achieving what you want if you no longer want it?
For me it seems like the more I discover, the simpler everything becomes.
I no longer feel the need to do anything but my own thang. And, I gotta tell ya, it’s quite liberating.
Nowadays I pretty much drown out all the advice people try to give me. And it’s not that I’m not listening…
…it’s just that I finally found what works for me (at least for now).
I know that if I want something, all I have to do is keep adding energy to it.
The more I think about it, the closer that reality gets to me. The more I take action, the closer I become to that reality.
How can it get any more simple than that?
